This week, Joe Biden posted a tweet that featured a picture of him riding in a GMC Hummer EV. While Democrats applauded the President for advertising electric vehicles, one thing quickly alerted others to something very wrong with Biden’s post. Within minutes of its launch online, people were quick to point out what may have been overlooked prior to hitting “send.” In this video, we’ll dive into the details and explore why everyone noticed more than one major mistake in Joe Biden’s tweet promoting the electric vehicle!

In an EV with a mask hanging underneath his chin, President Biden smiled gleefully as he promoted electric vehicles again on Monday.

Biden captioned the photo, “On my watch, the great American road trip is going to be fully electrified. And now, through a tax credit, you can get up to $7,500 on a new electric vehicle.”

There’s just one problem with Biden’s tweet, however. Citing data from the Internal Revenue Service, FOX News reports that the Hummer EV is not even eligible for the $7,500 credit since SUVs and trucks must not exceed a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $80,000. 

The GMC Hummer EV Biden was pictured in ranges in cost from $87,000 to nearly $110,000 depending on the model.

The Hummer EV also costs much more than the median American salary. In the fourth quarter of 2022, Americans earned an average of $1,085 per week, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to that figure, the median American salary is around $56,000.

Needless to say, Twitter users – including many prominent Republican lawmakers – piled on Biden for his tone deaf tweet.

Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn commented, “Gas prices have gone up for five straight weeks and Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Biden’s solution is to purchase a 100k+ car that doesn’t even qualify for his tax credit.”

Pennsylvania Congressman Guy Reschenthaler posted this meme, mocking Biden for his advertisement of the expensive vehicle while average Americans are having trouble filling up their gas tanks. 

Indiana Congressman Jim Banks added, “Joe Biden is bragging that the Democrats used your tax dollars to subsidize $80,000 new cars.”

Tim Young commented, “Biden is sitting in a Hummer EV with an MSRP of $98,400… People can’t afford gas… but Democrats think $7,500 off of this is a win.”

Trump-endorsed author Nick Adams added, “This car costs more than the average American family’s annual household income. This is the most out of touch thing I have ever seen from an American President.”

And another person added, “Americans can’t afford eggs and Biden does promo ads for a $110K car.”

President Biden’s tone deaf tweet promoting the GMC Hummer EV had everyone noticing the costly discrepancy between what he asks his constituents to invest in and the reality of their financial situations. The Hummer EV –  which is well outside most Americans’ budgets – doesn’t even qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit that President Biden touts. With inflation soaring and wages continuing to suffer, it’s almost unreal how far removed this opportunity is from real life.
