A recent survey from The Economist/YouGov found that just over a quarter of Americans favor allowing Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to serve on congressional committees.
The survey asked, “In the past, certain members of Congress have been blocked from serving on congressional committees. In your opinion, should Ilhan Omar be allowed to serve on congressional committees?”
A little more than a quarter, 27 percent, said Omar should be allowed to serve on a congressional committee. 32 percent of respondents said she shouldn’t serve on a committee, while 42 percent said they weren’t sure.
Only 41 percent of Democrats believe Omar should be allowed to serve on a congressional committee, while 20 percent disagree – a sentiment shared by 26 percent of independents and 50 percent of Republicans.
The survey also asked respondents of their “favorability” of Omar, in which 34% of all respondents found her “unfavorable” while only 29% found her “favorable.”
The House voted along party lines on Thursday to remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Leftist colleagues went into meltdowns over Omar’s future on the committee.
According to Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), the GOP used “hate as a weapon against a black, beautiful, Muslim woman.”
Similarly, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed Omar’s removal was about “targeting women of color in the United States of America.”
In response to Democrats accusing the GOP of racism for removing Rep. Ilhan Omar from her committee assignments, Americans have revealed their thoughts on the national security risk she poses. According to a poll conducted by The Economist/YouGov, only 27 percent believe Omar should be allowed to serve on congressional committees. Meanwhile, 32 percent are unwavering in their opinion that she is unworthy of such a position. However, even with the Democrat outcry against this move by the GOP, it may be a smart one as national security should not be taken lightly.
