A change to the presidential primary schedule has been made by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), putting South Carolina first.
NBC reports, after decades as the starting point of presidential elections, Iowa and New Hampshire were kicked off from this status by the Democratic National Committee on Saturday, ratifying president Joe Biden’s 2024 calendar recommendation.
In the biggest shakeup of the presidential primary in years, South Carolina will now kick things off for Democrats followed by Michigan, Georgia, and Nevada.
The move appears to be political payback for Republican Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, who saved Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign after a string of primary losses.
However, this is all about ‘diversity’ and regaining power for the people, say the folks at MSNBC.
The media won’t admit it, but the change is all about giving Biden an advantage, if he decides to run for re-election.
The Democrats in Iowa and New Hampshire opposed the new calendar, warning that opening the calendar to change could create chaos by inviting other states to attempt to elbow in and hurt Democrats’ electoral prospects.
In 2024, the Republican Party will stick with traditional roles for Iowa and New Hampshire
The DNC’s decision to change the primary schedule is a backfire waiting to happen, as it will only serve to deepen divides within the party. In prioritizing political payback and making South Carolina the first stop in the presidential primary season, they have created a situation that could result in an unexpected loss of Democratic seats. If Biden should decide to run again, he may be in for a rude awakening if this move backfires on him.
