Outrageous: “Defund the Police” Councilman Caught Red-Handed!

One would expect that lawmakers create laws to help benefit their communities, but sadly that is not the case. It seems our lawmakers are no longer part of the community they represent and thus the laws do not reflect the values or needs as they once did. This has become all too apparent when liberals vehemently push forth their own interests knowing the damage it will bring while hoping their constituents are too stupid to realize it themselves.

Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez has been a major proponent of the “Defund the Police” movement, hoping to steer Los Angeles away from any reliance on law enforcement. And to no conservative, the controversial City Councilman is now facing criticism for publicly opposing police funding while simultaneously requesting increased patrols to protect his vehicle. This situation brings into question whether Hugo’s claims hold true and how his decisions ultimately reflect upon him and the “Defund the Police” agenda he advocates for. Will the liberals see the silver lining?

Breibart reports, Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez is facing criticism after one of his staff members asked the Los Angeles Police Department to increase patrols to protect his car. The councilman is a vocal supporter of the “Defund the Police” movement.

The LAPD received a request from Soto-Martinez’s office on Wednesday to patrol the area around a white Lexus that had broken down, FOX LA reported, and, apparently, police believed it belonged to the councilman.

Fox 11 reported on the controversial issue with an LAPD cop having a lot to say about it.

According to Fox LA, the staffer was identified as David Mai, and he drove the Lexus in the broadcast. Soto-Martinez, who represents District 13, shows off his Prius in a tweet from December 12.

Due to Soto-Martinez’s past remarks concerning law enforcement, his request was viewed as hypocritical. Within weeks of George Floyd’s death, the councilman tweeted a picture of a protest, writing, “We are not going to stop until we defund the police.”

Residents of district 13 were asked what they thought about the controversy and this is what they had to say.

Nick Barnes, Soto-Martinez’s deputy communications director, issued a statement to the publication, which read: It’s come to our attention that a deputy staffer has had some contact with the LAPD regarding his personal vehicle. We are investigating this matter internally and will be taking appropriate action…Council member Soto-Martinez is very upset, as this does not reflect the values of transparency, responsible governance, and being accountable to the community that elected him.

Lawmakers who fight for abolishing the police may be popular among the leftist public, but let’s remember that they probably have a team of private security at their beck and call should they ever feel in danger. People need to wake up: those who so vocally espouse this kind of policy are not swimming in the same troubled waters as the average citizen; their rhetoric has no real consequences for them. A politician’s staff is a perfect reflection of him and if one does something as tone deaf as calling the cops to protect his vehicle, who’s to say the politician if ever in that situation wouldn’t do the the same.

Let’s continue this conversation, in the comments below.
