On a national tour some believe is a prelude to a bid for the presidency in 2024, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the Biden administration was throwing money at Ukraine without stating a clear goal.
This was the first time the Republican has spoken extensively about the war in Ukraine, which the Biden administration has helped fund with nearly $200 billion in aid.
DeSantis mentioned recent reports from Secretary of State Antony Blinken that China might be preparing to send weapons to Russia. After China sent a spy balloon floating over the U.S. earlier this month, tensions between the U.S. and China are already at a boiling point.
According to DeSantis, Russia’s erstwhile ally, China, poses the real threat. Additionally to flexing on the U.S. in recent weeks and pledging support for Russia, Beijing has also suggested that it could invade Taiwan.
During DeSantis’ interview with FOX, President Joe Biden was in Kyiv on a surprise visit to show U.S. support for the war-torn country.
During the president’s five-hour meeting with Zelensky on Monday, he stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine in its war against Russia, which invaded its neighbor without provocation last year. Biden also announced another aid package worth $500 million for the country during his visit.
DeSantis’ criticism of the Biden administration for writing “blank checks” to Ukraine instead of funding America’s issues first is spot-on. This endless cycle of pouring US money into the war-torn country is irresponsible, as the President should be spending the funds to help Americans first. It is simply shameful for Biden to visit Kyiv before he had addressed America’s own problems, which show no signs of abating any time soon.
