The FDA announced Monday that Reckitt voluntarily recalled 145,000 cans of baby formula for potential cross-contamination with a dangerous bacteria.

The Daily Caller reports, it has been determined that two batches of ProSobee 12.9 oz Simply Plant-Based Formula manufactured between Aug. 2022 and Sept. 2022 were at risk of having the bacteria in them, the FDA announced in a press release.

The bacteria in question lives in dry foods such as powdered infant formula and powdered milk. The CDC reports that the bacteria can infect products in a home or processing facility, and it can live on surfaces.

According to the CDC, infant infections are rare, but they can be life-threatening.

The recalled product was sold in retail stores in the U.S., Guam and Puerto Rico, according to the announcement. A number on the bottom of the can identified the two recalled batches.

This comes after an outbreak of baby illnesses in 2022 was reportedly linked to unsanitary conditions at Abbott Nutrition’s Sturgis, Michigan, facility, where batches of previously recalled baby formula were manufactured.

Following the recall and shortage, the FDA said it was enhancing its surveillance of baby formula for bacteria, according to CNN.
