Is Joe Manchin Abandoning West Virginia in 2024? Indecision Fuels Speculation About Senate Race

Senator Machin has been a thorn in his own party’s side for this more progressive leadership, though well respected within the party and by many on the opposite side of the aisle. He stands firmly against what he views as an oppressive leadership style among certain key figures in his own party, insisting that things like the constitution be respected. For this reason alone, we are sure there are not a lot of leftists pulling for Senator Machin to stick around – especially with rumors going around about his 2024 plans.

Sen. Joe Manchin’s political future has stirred quite a bit of noise recently as reports have surfaced that he may be undecided about whether to run for reelection in 2024. As questions began flying around, the senator deftly sidestepped the topic but did point out that he had already set aside any thoughts of a 2024 White House bid in a recent, thus leaving speculation to the Senate or possible governor’s seat.

The washington examiner reports,

In the face of reports that he was undecided about whether to seek reelection in 2024, Sen. Joe Manchin avoided answering questions about his prospects.

During the interview, Maria Bartiromo asked the senator if he planned to run for president in 2024. However, he has remained silent about whether he would run for governor or the Senate.

Manchin was asked the same question a month ago on “Meet The Press” and this is what he had to say.

On Sunday Manchin was asked on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures what his plans are and he said, “My main concern is how do we bring this country together. How do we make it work, how do we make Democrats, Republicans become Americans again, and not just party affiliates.”

When host Maria Bartiromo asked if he still identified as a Democrat, Manchin replied, “I identify as an American.”

It is noteworthy that Manchin won his statewide campaign in a state where former President Donald Trump won by nearly 40 percentage points in 2020.

In the 2024 Senate election cycle, Manchin’s seat may be one of the most vulnerable for Democrats in decades. The Democratic Party will defend 23 seats, including three held by Democratic-aligned independent senators, while the Republican Party will defend only 11.

Joe Manchin is a unique individual among American politicians today, existing somewhere in the middle of the two main parties instead of firmly on either side. His views are often too liberal for current-day conservatives and too conservative for some modern liberals, making him something of a living anachronism. He may be hesitant to remain as an active politician in his current position because he does not feel closely aligned with either party. We won’t know until he makes his decision in 2024. It would be a shame to watch him leave because of the hard time he gives the left.
