Moments After Lightfoot LOSES, Chicago’s Top Cop Makes UNEXPECTED Announcement

The Windy City has been rocked with good news this week! Not only did Mayor Lori Lightfoot lose her reelection bid, but now the city’s former top cop, David Brown, has resigned in disgrace. This drastic turn of events marks a stunning two-for-one deal that is sure to shake up – and hopefully improve – Chicago politics for years to come. With Lightfoot and Brown gone, what will become of a city that’s already seen its fair share of controversy? We’ve got all the details on this major news story right here – so don’t miss out!

One day after Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot lost her re-election bid, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown resigned.

In Brown’s two years as top cop, violence spiked and police reforms stagnated – the same issues that made Lightfoot the city’s first incumbent mayor to not be re-elected in four decades.

According to Brown’s letter of resignation, he was taking a job at a Texas-based personal injury law firm.

A statement from Lightfoot says that Brown will be resigning on March 16.

In her statement, Lightfoot continued, writing,” I accepted his resignation and want to commend him for his accomplishment, not just for the department but for the entire city, including setting a record number of illegal gun recoveries for two consecutive years.”

However, many people questioned which “accomplishments” Lightfoot was referring to.

On Twitter, Rob O’Donnell – a Retired NYPD Detective – commented, “Accomplishments? He was an utter failure by every metric.”

As noted by NBC, on the issue of crime, under Lightfoot and Brown’s leadership, Chicago in 2021 recorded the most killings in a quarter-century, 797, and more than 3,500 shootings — which was 1,400 more than were recorded in 2019, when Lightfoot first took office.

This week, Chicagoans have made big strides in taking back their city. After Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s loss and the resignation of superintendent David Brown, who was facing disgrace for failing to effectively crack down on crime, it looks like a big change is in store for the Windy City. With violence at an all-time high, hope is rising yet again that with a new mayor and hopefully an improved police force, big changes are underway that will contribute to rebuilding Chicago into a safer city.
