As a result of Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s request that President Joe Biden take a competency test, First Lady Jill Biden is furious.
In a late February Fox News poll, 77% of Americans supported requiring such tests, with 83% of millennials, 84% of GenXers, and 66% of Baby Boomers supporting it. Additionally, 87% of Republicans, 74% of Independents, and 67% of Democrats favored mental capacity tests.
However, the first lady still rejected the idea of the tests when interviewed by CNN.
When asked on Sunday whether politicians over 75 – including her 80 year old husband – should take a mental competency test, Jill Biden responded, “Ridiculous. We would never even discuss something like that.”
Meanwhile, Nikki Haley isn’t the only person calling for mental competency tests.
President Trump upped the stakes, calling for both mental and physical competency tests for ANYONE seeking to be President.
President Trump stated, “ANYBODY running for the Office of President of the United States should agree to take a full & complete Mental Competency Test simultaneously (or before!) with the announcement that he or she is running, & likewise, but to a somewhat lesser extent, agree to a test which would prove that you are physically capable of doing the job.”
He continued, saying, “Being an outstanding President requires great mental acuity & physical stamina. If you don’t have these qualities or traits, it is likely you won’t succeed.”
It is understandable that Joe’s wife Jill would react defensively when questioned about his mental fitness. It is natural for anyone to want to protect their loved ones from potential harm, especially when questions about Joe Biden’s health have been increasing as he grows older. However, since Joe Biden is currently the leader of the free world, Americans are completely within their rights to question if he is mentally fit for the job. Transparency should be given priority in order for citizens to make an informed decision on who they elect. Ultimately, Joe Biden should provide valid evidence that he is fit enough to serve as one of the most important leaders of the country.
