NYPD Crisis: Cops Fleeing NYC in Record Numbers

In a shocking reality for New Yorkers, cops are fleeing the NYPD in record numbers.

With skyrocketing crime, numerous attacks on members of the force, and an overall sense that personal protection is not present, it is no surprise that officals are choosing to take flight.

Breitbart reports, despite a crime wave sweeping across President Joe Biden’s America, New York City’s police officers are reportedly resigning at a record pace.

A shocking 239 NYPD officers tapped out in January and February, up 36% from 176 last year, and up 117% from 110 in 2021, according to pension data.

There have been the most resignations for the first two months of a year since 250 members quit during a contentious contract dispute in 2007.

One Manhattan officer told the outlet that some officers are being forced to work overtime and on their days off. This apparently happens when they are being penalized for minor infractions.

Additionally, the officer noted that precincts barely have enough personnel to answer residents’ 911 calls.

Officers also want out because of what they see as anti-cop politics and leftist bail reform policies, which have wreaked havoc on the area.

While New York City is hemorrhaging police officers, Eric Adams is not concernet about them leaving.

NY Post reports, the mayor said that he doesn’t mind cops leaving the NYPD in droves – he said it’s an “amazing career,” and that the departures offer an opportunity to “diversify” the force.

In 2022, over 1,500 officers either resigned or retired, the largest exodus of officers since statistics have been available, according to The Post.

As of May 31, 520 police officers had resigned and more than 1,000 had retired, according to NYPD pension data obtained by The Post. The 1,596 total departures from the police department represents a 38% spike compared to the same period in 2021, when 1,159 cops called it a career, and a 46% increase from 2020, when 1,092 left the force by the same point.

With skyrocketing crime and attacks on law enforcement officers increasing, it is only natural that NYPD officers are leaving their posts at a record-breaking rate. They are likely fearful for their own personal protection and outraged by the lack of respect for the Constitution which is supposed to protect and serve them. However, what should be even more concerning for citizens of New York is that political agendas seem to be taking precedence over safety, leading these officers to feel as if their jobs are becoming impossible to perform without fear of repercussions from elected officials. This does not bode well for the citizens of New York and their safety moving forward.
