WATCH: HHS Secretary Looks Like a Deer in the Headlights When Asked Simple Question about the Border

The Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis continues to raise eyebrows as their officials appear utterly clueless about the situation. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra was caught looking like a deer in the headlights when asked a simple question about the number of unaccompanied minors who have been lost during the crisis. As the situation at the border worsens by the day, it’s clear that the Biden administration’s incompetence is taking a toll on the safety and security of the American people.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) grilled Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra about the number of unaccompanied minors who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border the federal agency has lost track of.

Citing a report by the New York Times, Blackburn said HHS lost track of 85,000 unaccompanied minors placed by sponsors within the United States, supposedly to family members.

According to the Times, HHS checks on all minors a month after they have been released to sponsors but was unable to contact more than 85,000 minors over the last two years, and lost immediate contact with a third of migrant children.

Becerra looked like a deer in the headlights when faced with these catastrophic numbers, as he tried to stammer and stutter his way through his answer.

The Biden administration has seen more than 250,000 unaccompanied minors arrive at the southern border without their parents.

Due to the lack of accountability of where the children end up, many have been forced to work in meat plants and automobile supply shops under dangerous conditions.

The number of unaccompanied children crossing the border increased from 33,239 in FY2020 to over 146,000 in FY 2021 and 152,000 in FY 2022, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statistics. Unaccompanied children have been encountered 57,673 times in FY 2023.

It’s incredible that Secretary Becerra, one of the top officials in the Biden administration, doesn’t even know how many unaccompanied minors have gone missing at the southern border. This is unacceptable, as it not only puts these vulnerable children in danger but also poses a threat to the American people. The Biden administration seems to be more concerned with empty virtue signaling than actually solving the border crisis. As the situation worsens, now more than ever, we need a strong and decisive leader who can put an end to this crisis and prioritize the safety of Americans. It’s time for the Biden administration to stop playing politics and start taking meaningful action to address the border crisis.
