With the sad news that a football coach had been fired for praying in school, conservative Americans felt powerless against the leftist agenda.
However, this past June saw justice served with the Supreme Court of the United States ruling in favor of religious expression: protecting the now infamous prayer of Coach Joe Kennedy at Bremerton High School with a victory of 1.7 million dollars plus his job back.
Ny Post reports, Kennedy, the Washington state high school football coach who lost his job after leading students in midfield prayers after games, will get his job back next year after collecting a $1.7 million settlement.
Following the US Supreme Court’s split decision last June that Kennedy’s prayer groups were protected by the First Amendment, the Bremerton school board voted unanimously last week to accept the massive settlement.
Kennedy’s attorney, Jeremy Dys, told ABC News Kennedy will return to Bremerton – a small city just across Puget Sound from Seattle – to resume coaching.
“Mr. Kennedy will be an assistant football coach for Bremerton High School for the 2023 season,” the district said on its website, adding that it will pay his attorneys in interest-free installments over three fiscal years.
The Seattle Times reports that Kennedy has been coaching at Bremerton High School since 2008. Students and players eventually joined him in praying at the 50-yard line after games.
District Judge Robert S. Lasnik ordered the two sides to negotiate a joint stipulation as a way to end Kennedy’s long-running legal battle. Lasnik set a 60-day deadline on Aug. 26 for Kennedy and the school district to submit the stipulation.
The document indicates that there is still work to be done in two crucial areas — one about the relief Kennedy is entitled to, and another about the final injunction’s language. By Nov. 8, the two sides plan to submit their own versions of the court’s proposed order.
Prior to overseeing players, Kennedy must complete all employment forms and certifications, according to the joint stipulation. Kennedy is also prohibited from being retaliated against by the school district.
According to the stipulation, Kennedy can claim “reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs” in his case against Bremerton, a small city just across Puget Sound from Seattle.
This case has been working its way through the courts for more than six years, so the cost could be steep. On the document, the school district is represented by two lawyers, while Kennedy is represented by five law firms, from Washington state, Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
After much debate and discussion, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of justice being served with regards to the sad story of the football coach fired for praying in school. The Coach won a settlement of $1.7 million, as well as a piecemeal victory for religious freedom which shocked many leftists and those pushing an agenda that attempts to eradicate any sign of faith from public institutions. Praise God for justice being served! It was a resounding victory not just for this particular Coach, but for all believers who now know they don’t have to succumb to outrageous and crazy political demands– their faith is going nowhere!
