The Biden administration has once again proven that its priorities don’t lie with protecting American students. In a shocking development, the White House has rejected a common sense plan to harden schools and add more security officers. This decision comes at a time when school shootings and other violent incidents have become a regular occurrence in many parts of the country. For parents and concerned citizens who were looking for a concrete solution to ensure the safety of children, this move by the administration is a complete letdown.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made clear the Biden administration’s clear partisan position on school safety during Thursday’s White House press briefing.

Senate Republicans Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty of Tennessee introduced the SAFE Act, which provides $900 million in grants for schools to strengthen their physical security and hire veterans and former law enforcement officers to deter assailants.

But the White House, according to Karine Jean-Pierre, doesn’t care about improving schools’ safety by making it more difficult for assailants to enter, or by introducing trained individuals who can defend schools and the students within them, or by creating more deterrents that might deter a would-be assailant from targeting schools.

According to Nashville police, the transgender shooter who targeted the Covenant School chose it because another target had too much security. Therefore, deterrents are important.

When asked what President Biden’s position was on the SAFE Act, Jean-Pierre promised she was “going to be very clear here.” She then gave a long-winded answer that was filled with false claims before rejecting the SAFE Act and the help it would provide to schools working to harden and secure their premises as a whole.

It’s stunning that the current administration would turn down a plan that aims to safeguard the most vulnerable members of our society. The proposal, which involved reinforcing school facilities with bulletproof doors and windows, installing metal detectors, and increasing the number of security personnel, was a no-brainer for anyone who cares about protecting children. By rejecting this sensible proposal, the Biden administration is sending a clear message that their focus is elsewhere, despite what they might say. As parents and educators across the country demand greater protection for students, the Biden administration seems satisfied with simply paying lip service to the issue. It’s high time they start taking real action and prioritize the safety of our precious children.
