The Democrats are in a quandary. They know the country is changing quickly, and they need someone to lead their charge for the 2024 presidential election. But they’d never admit that among themselves. However, there’s one senator who could change their fortunes, who may be considering a bid to challenge their once golden boy.
Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has recently been stirring up quite the conversation with his television appearance. He has not officially declared a run for president in 2024, but all of his words and actions point to this being a strong possibility. As a long serving senator with Democratic values, Manchin has positioned himself as a moderate option for Americans around the country. This could make him an appealing candidate for democrats and could give him an edge should he decide to enter the race.
Daily wire reports, during several Sunday talk shows, Manchin was repeatedly asked whether he planned to announce his candidacy. When asked point blank about his intentions, Manchin refused to respond, but he gave strong hints that he might run. According to the moderate Democrat, the country is looking for a voice in the middle.
In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Manchin said, “First of all, I’m worn out. The people are tired, sick and tired of the fighting and division that we have and dividing the country. Abraham Lincoln said, divided, we cannot stand. We cannot … have a divided country, and we cannot withstand that. We have to come together. We’re the United States.”
He added, “There’s a movement going on that people want to bring the extremes back to the sensible and reasonable, responsible middle.”
That’s when Dana asked Senator THE QUESTION.
According to Manchin in another interview on “Meet the Press”, news headlines about the indictment of former President Donald Trump distract from geopolitical instability throughout the world, the budget and debt crises, inflation, and energy security. Chuck Todd remarked that Manchin sounded “like a presidential candidate” and pushed him once more.
Manchin responded, “When you’re asking me what I’m going to do and what my political ambitions would be, it’s to make the country work together and be a United States and not the divided states. I’m going to do whatever I can to have a voice in that middle, that we can basically force both sides to say, ‘Wait a minute, you’ve gone to extremes. You’ve got to start coming back. You’ve got to find ways to solve problems.’ You can’t solve them from the extreme right and the extreme left. You can’t make people, make a — pick a side.”
Again, Manchin deflected a direct question about whether he would run for president.
Manchin sure is sounding like a potential presidential candidate. He went from the beginning saying he wasn’t planning on running to completely ignoring such an easy question. If he does choose to run he will be a front runner for the democratic side. No one else will be of match to him, not even Biden. The only problem the democratic party will have with him is the fact that he has made their lives miserable when it comes to the senate.
