Senator Marco Rubio recently expressed his concerns about the Biden Administration’s approach to foreign nations’ policies that do not align with its own. Rather than elevating countries that want to do better for their citizens’ safety Biden wants nothing to do with those nations.
Senator Marco Rubio took an important step towards international diplomacy over the weekend, visiting El Salvador to meet with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele. During his visiting, Sen. Rubio expressed outrage towards the Biden Administration’s policies and criticized the current president for alienating Central American and other allies who were once close to the United States and plan to take harsher stances against gang crime.
Breitbart reports, the El Salvadorian president, Bukele, is currently engaged in a campaign to eradicate the country’s largest gangs, including Mara Salvatrucha-13 (MS-13) and 18th Street. As a result of his country’s “state of exception” for a month, police have arrested thousands of people suspected of having gang ties, restricting civil liberties like freedom of assembly. Although Bukele is legally prohibited from running for reelection, the campaign is immensely popular with citizens of El Salvador.
Under former President Donald Trump, Bukele’s administration maintained friendly relationships with Washington. The Biden administration has condemned the gang crackdown, however, resulting in Bukele accusing Biden last year of “supporting the gangs.”
During their meeting, Bukele’s security initiatives, the importance of democratic order in the region, and mutual cooperation between the United States and El Salvador were discussed. An encounter with William Duncan, the U.S. ambassador to El Salvador, was also held.
Sen Rubio later twitted, “In El Salvador @nayibbukeleput thousands of gangbangers in jail He has an over 90% approval rating because for the first time in decades people feel safe going out at night & they no longer have to pay an extortion tax to MS13”
After his return from his visit in El Salvador, Rubio shared his concerns.
On Monday, Bukele shared Rubio’s video with added Spanish subtitles on Facebook.
Bukele’s Facebook post read. “U.S. Senator Marco Rubio visited our country to learn first-hand reality, facing the accusations of the Biden administration. Unlike many, he decided to come and know the truth, with his own eyes.”
A state of emergency has been in place in El Salvador since March 2022 due to gang violence after 62 homicides took place on a single day that month – the most violent day in a century. De facto, martial law was declared over the Central American nation.
In accordance with the nation’s constitution, the decree, which originally lasted 30 days, can be extended for an additional 30 days as long as the causes that initially enacted it still exist.
The countries that want better themselves are the ones our American government wants nothing to do with. If that does not tell everything about this administration, I have no idea how else to wake you up. Open your eyes and see what we’re being distracted from.
