The progressive agenda never sleeps, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is leading the charge to further defy the rule of law. Despite being just two terms into her congressional career, the former bartender has gained plenty of attention for her radical views on everything from economics to the environment. Her latest suggestion for the Biden administration is no different, as she advocates for ignoring a court ruling and doing what she says instead. Such a suggestion is not only dangerous but sets a troubling precedent for the future of our country.

On Sunday, the bartender-turned-lawmaker said President Joe Biden should ignore the ruling of a federal judge who on Friday suspended the two-decade-old approval of an abortion pill while a legal challenge proceeds.

Amid backlash for her comments, AOC defended herself and tweeted: “We have a system of checks and balances. That includes checking egregious judicial overreach and abuse of power. Without a check, democratically-elected lawmaking will be increasingly disposed of and replaced by a partisan judiciary. Folks may not want to face it, but it’s here.”

In the United States of America, the rule of law is one of the cornerstones of our society. It is what separates us from authoritarian regimes and ensures that our government is accountable to the people. Yet, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seems to have no problem throwing this crucial principle out the window if it conflicts with her views. Her recent suggestion that the Biden administration should ignore a court ruling and follow her lead is a blatant violation of the separation of powers and the independent judiciary. It not only undermines the critical checks and balances built into our system but also threatens the very foundations of our democracy. It is high time for those in positions of power to push back against this kind of reckless behavior. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s suggestion to disregard a court ruling is not only unconstitutional but also an affront to the very foundation of our justice system. If we allow this kind of disregard for the rule of law to go unchecked, we put the entire American experiment at risk.
