A new attack against former President Donald Trump has surfaced. The report claims that the DOJ suspects Trump of wire fraud over allegations that he participated in fundraising-related illegal activities during the 2020 presidential election and President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

The accusations stem from false claims of election fraud that were used to elicit donations from conservatives, which reportedly generated over $200 million in donations.

Mediaite has reported that Trump’s associates are being subpoenaed and questioned by investigators to better understand the allegations. Here’s what’s really behind the FBI’s investigation of Trump’s fundraiser.

According to the report, Special Counsel Jack Smith is investigating possible wire fraud crimes committed by Trump’s “fundraising operation” for making false claims of election fraud to raise donations, which would violate wire fraud laws. 

The Post notes that under federal law it is “illegal to make false representations over email to swindle people out of money.”

Trump advisers and former campaign aides, Republican operatives and other consultants involved in the 2020 campaign have received subpoenas from Smith’s office, the people said. Some of these figures also gave testimony in front of a Washington grand jury, these people said.

This investigation into Trump’s fundraiser is another political ploy designed to continue to try to damage his reputation and sideline him as a political threat to the Democrats. It’s not based on evidence, but on their political vendetta. The allegations of wire fraud are groundless and the whole process seems politically motivated. Trump and his associates have been targeted unfairly and this investigation needs to be scrutinized further for what it really is–a hoax.
