**Texas Children’s Hospital discontinues transgender treatment for minors**

In a significant move, the largest children’s hospital in the US discontinues hormone therapy and other transgender care for minors. The Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) CEO, Mark Wallace, cites compliance with new Texas law and ongoing investigations as factors in this decision.

The announcement follows the Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton’s launch of an investigation into the hospital on the grounds of potential illegal behavior and performing “gender transitioning” procedures on children. Paxton expressed his commitment to protect children and prevent institutions from treating them as science experiments. He criticized hospitals and doctors for performing mutilative and irreversible procedures on innocent children.

Senate Bill 14, which seeks to ban child gender modification procedures, was passed on May 17 and is expected to be signed into law by Governor Abbott. Wallace acknowledged the challenges faced by the hospital in complying with the new law in his internal memo. He stated that the hospital will modify the gender-affirming care offered to comply with the law, discontinue hormone therapies, and source appropriate care outside Texas. The hospital will continue providing psychosocial support and any form of care in accordance with the law.

Wallace expressed the difficulty of being unable to serve and support these children as they did in the past. He assures continued dedication in promoting safe, high-quality transgender healthcare programs. Wallace also assured care teams and staff working on gender-affirming treatments of unwavering commitment and support.
