**Man Fatally Shot on Metro Train in DC During Robbery Attempt**
A tragic shooting took place on Sunday aboard a Green Line Metro train at the Navy Yard-Ballpark station in Washington, D.C. A man lost his life after an attempted robbery went awry, highlighting the continued issue of violence on the D.C. Metro system.
Around 11:45 a.m., Metro Transit Police (MTPD) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) received word of the incident. Although first responders attempted life-saving measures, the adult male was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. The Navy Yard-Ballpark station caters to Nationals Park, home to the Nationals Major League Baseball team, as well as Audi Field, catering to Major League Soccer, the XFL, and the National Women’s Soccer League. A series of high-profile concerts, featuring Pink and Bruce Springsteen, are due to take place at Nationals Park in August.

Despite the ban on passengers carrying guns on the D.C. Metro system, which was upheld in a lawsuit last year, such violent incidents continue to plague the area.
