Newborn Baby Safely Deposited in Tennessee’s First Safe Haven Baby Box Within 30 Minutes of Birth

**Tennessee Installs First Safe Haven Baby Box, Saving a Newborn Just 30 Minutes After Birth**

Tennessee’s first Safe Haven baby drop box successfully saves a newborn’s life after being installed at the Knoxville Fire Department. Thanks to this system, which instantly alerts staff via a silent alarm, parents in crisis now have a safe and anonymous way to ensure their babies are protected.

In February, Tennessee added a vital resource to its community by installing a Safe Haven baby drop box at the Knoxville Fire Department. This baby box had a life-saving impact when, just 30 minutes after birth, a desperate mother placed her infant inside. The box features a silent alarm system to alert staff, who were then able to retrieve the baby and promptly transport them to a local hospital.

Assistant Chief Mark Wilbanks of the Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) conveyed his satisfaction with the system, stating that it serves as an important resource for distressed parents who are unsure of what to do with their newborns. The Safe Haven baby box offers these parents an alternative to the potentially dangerous solutions they might have turned to in such circumstances.

The baby box itself contains a packet of resources for the parent and allows them to drop off their child anonymously. When the box’s door closes, it takes just a minute for the fire station to be alerted without staff knowing the identity of the individual. This ensures that anyone in crisis has a safe and discreet way of receiving help for their child.

This innovation, installed only three months ago, has already proven its worth in the community, as demonstrated by the rapid response that led to the safe rescue of the newborn. With its built-in weight-sensitive magnetic automatic lock, the box is equipped to keep a baby warm until staff can arrive, heating to 85 degrees within minutes.

The success of Tennessee’s first Safe Haven baby drop box is a testament to the proactive measures being taken to protect families in crisis. With the implementation of this system, the Knoxville community can now ensure the safety of more infants who might otherwise have been placed in dangerous or life-threatening situations.

**Tennessee’s Safe Haven Baby Box is a Vital Resource for Families in Crisis**

The rapid response and successful rescue of a newborn thanks to Tennessee’s first Safe Haven baby box is clear evidence of the crucial role such resources play within communities. Providing safe and anonymous support to parents in crisis situations, this innovative system is surely set to save countless lives in the future.
