**California Governor Gavin Newsom embarrasses himself, attempting to blame Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for a mass shooting in Florida. Newsom’s hasty attempt to push his anti-gun agenda rapidly backfired.**
California Governor Gavin Newsom tried to blame a mass shooting that occurred near Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort on a new gun law signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis back in April. As a result, nine people were injured, and three of them were minors. Five people were taken into custody following the incident, and one suspect remains at large. Unfortunately for Newsom, his attempt to capitalize on tragedy failed spectacularly.
The police have yet to determine an official motive for the shooting. In a tweet, Newsom claimed that removing the requirements for background checks, instruction, and training would contribute to violence. DeSantis’ press secretary, Jeremy Redfern, swiftly debunked Newsom’s assertion by pointing out that the law would not take effect until July 1st. Thus, making it impossible for this legislation to have influenced the tragic event.
Furthermore, Fox News reported that Newsom was misleading the public about the new gun law in Florida, which does not remove background check requirements. The law only allows citizens over the age of 21 to carry without a permit and fee. However, citizens can still obtain permits if they so choose. The legislation does not change the eligibility criteria for acquiring a carry permit.
Several other conservatives took to social media after Newsom’s poorly-informed tweet, questioning the likelihood of the shooters owning their weapons legally. Newsom appeared to jump at the opportunity to condemn DeSantis and his gun laws without proper evidence or knowledge of the facts.
**Governor Newsom’s rash attempt to politicize a tragedy backfires, revealing his lack of knowledge about Florida’s gun laws and prematurely jumping to conclusions.**
