In today’s news, CNN is under fire for promoting a bizarre new trend where women marry themselves, seemingly aiming to attack traditional marriage further. Liberals claimed that marriage equality would not go beyond same-sex marriage, but it seems they have opened Pandora’s Box.
Sologamy, or marrying oneself, was recently highlighted by CNN in an article where the outlet interviewed multiple women who have chosen to undergo these unconventional ceremonies. These individuals claim it’s an act of self-love and not an attack on marriage. However, critics argue that this is simply the continued erosion of traditional values and another example of narcissism in today’s society.
While some may see sologamy as harmless self-affirmation, others view it as an undermining of the lifelong commitment marriage represents. Rather than focusing on self-improvement to find someone with whom to share their lives, these women have turned inward, reflecting the narcissistic nature of our current culture.
Only a few decades ago, Democrats such as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton stood for the traditional definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman. This sentiment has since changed dramatically, with prominent Democrats embracing the redefinition of marriage to include same-sex couples and likely going further in the years to come.
In the end, the real victims are the unadopted cats that might be left in shelters should lonely, left-wing women choose to marry themselves instead. CNN’s promotion of sologamy is a sad decline from objective journalism to embracing and even celebrating outlandish trends that attack the bedrock of family values.
