Durham Special Investigation Probes Clinton-FBI Alliance, Frustration Mounts Over Lack of Interest
In a recent exposé, Seymour Hersh has shed light on the dissatisfaction among Durham Special Investigation members due to a seeming disinterest in examining potential collusion between senior FBI officials and the Clinton campaign. Released on May 15, the Durham Report, after four years of anticipation, fell short of expectations for many. According to Hersh, the true story lies in the alleged Russiagate fraud being instigated by the Clinton campaign and enabled by complacent FBI officials and political reporters in Washington.
Late July 2016 saw a surge in suspicions that candidate Hillary Clinton had approved a plan to tarnish Donald Trump’s image by associating him with Putin and the Russians’ hacking of the Democratic National Committee. The Durham Report states that this intelligence, in combination with other facts, could suggest that data like the Steele Dossier reports and Alfa Bank allegations may have been generated for purely political purposes.
Hersh quotes anonymous sources who informed him of the palpable anxiety among Durham’s staff, given their superior’s unwillingness to investigate potential alliances between some senior FBI officials and the Clinton campaign and the possibility of preferential promotions in a Clinton administration. It remains unclear if Durham would have been permitted to extend his inquiry in this direction, if he so chose.
Back in 2001, Hersh recounts a luncheon with Middle Eastern CIA operatives mocking the FBI for limiting their scope to catching bank robbers, while the CIA agents themselves manipulated the system for their own gain.
Durham’s special investigation has highlighted the extent of lawlessness among elite intelligence agents and the shortcomings of the inquiry to adequately examine the connection between high-ranking FBI officials and the Clinton campaign.
