Content moderation has virtually vanished, leading to a drastic surge in hate speech. The statement also took issue with Musk himself, accusing him of perpetuating dangerous anti-democratic lies and white nationalist rhetoric.

Ben & Jerry’s claims that this environment has transformed Twitter into a hazardous domain for individuals from various backgrounds, including racial and religious minorities, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and disabled persons. The company finds the situation utterly unacceptable and detrimental to business.

As a result, Ben & Jerry’s demands that both Musk and Twitter address the “toxicity” plaguing the platform. To expedite this process, the company is calling for a boycott on advertising until the situation is rectified. Ben & Jerry’s plans to maintain a presence on the platform for the time being but will reevaluate its presence as the situation unfolds.

This move is not the first time Ben & Jerry’s has engaged in political activism. The company has previously boycotted doing business in Israel as a form of protest in support of the Palestinian cause.

With nearly half a million followers on Twitter, Ben & Jerry’s holds significant influence on the platform, and this bold move could potentially spark broader actions against hate speech and in favor of a safer digital environment.
