**Clerk fires shots at menacing group; Florida Sheriff supports no charges**
A Florida Circle K store clerk who discharged a firearm to defend himself against a threatening group of individuals will not face any charges. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons announced his support for the clerk, stating that, given the circumstances, it would be unfair to treat him as a felon.
The case has gained attention due to a released video showing the altercation inside the Pensacola Beach convenience store involving the clerk and a group of up to five people. The individuals repeatedly harassed the clerk both inside and outside the store, leading him to feel threatened. As a result, he retrieved a handgun, stepped outside, and fired two warning shots. The group decided not to press charges, and the sheriff’s office found no reason to contradict the clerk’s account of what transpired during the incident.
Terrifying moments were captured on a cellphone recording, showing the horrifying confrontation between the group and the clerk, who had clearly been pushed to his limit. As the ordeal concluded, the distressed clerk shouted, “I’m sorry ’bout that, y’all!” before explaining that he has three children and insisting the store was now closed.
Locals revealed that the store is frequented by large, rowdy groups, with incidents involving harassment of staff being all too familiar. One regular customer, Monica McGee, witnessed similar situations at other businesses in the area and emphasized the ongoing problem for store employees. Numerous supporters expressed their relief that the sheriff’s office was not charging the clerk on social media, praising the decision as sensible and advocating self-defense and standing up to bullies.
