Shocking Find: 45 Bags of Human Remains Discovered in Mexican Search for Missing Persons

In a gruesome twist, Mexican officials have uncovered 45 bags filled with human remains while searching for seven call center workers reported missing last week. The connection between the real estate and phone fraud schemes the employees were allegedly involved in, and their violent fate, remains a mystery.

Authorities discovered the remains in a rural area within the western state of Jalisco, following a tip about the possible presence of human remains at Mirador del Bosque ravine near Guadalajara. The search had been prompted by the disappearance of seven individuals, who were suspected of engaging in real estate fraud and telephone extortion.

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office revealed in a statement that the remains’ physical characteristics matched some of the missing people. Police are now working diligently to determine how many bodies were disposed of in this manner and what caused their deaths.

This horrifying discovery underscores the dangerous landscape in Mexico as drug cartel violence continues to plague the country. Government statistics show over 110,000 people are missing, with Jalisco as one of the hardest-hit regions. Many attribute much of the violence to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (JNGC), considered particularly vicious by the U.S. Department of Justice.

In 2020, Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski described the JNGC as “the most well-armed cartel in Mexico” and responsible for “a catastrophic trail of human and physical destruction.” It is known not only to confront rival cartels but also the security forces of the Mexican government.
