**Texas Enacts Law to Protect Children from Dangerous Gender Transition Procedures**
Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has taken a major step to shield children from radical gender transition procedures. SB14, the new legislation, bans certain treatments, medications, and surgeries. The Lone Star State leads the way as the largest to uphold child safeguarding against these controversial and harmful interventions.
SB14 prohibits children from receiving gender transition and gender reassignment procedures. It also restricts public money and public assistance from funding such interventions. Under this law, treatments meant to change the child’s perception of their sex that is inconsistent with their biological sex will be prohibited.
This includes puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, as well as surgical procedures such as castration, vasectomy, hysterectomy, oophorectormy, penectomy, mastectomy, phalloplasty, and vaginoplasty. The law also bans surgeries that sterilize a child.
However, there are a few exceptions: children who have already received non-surgical interventions before June 1 and those who have gone through at least 12 counseling sessions six months prior to getting prescriptions. These children will be weaned off the prohibited medication in a medically appropriate and safe manner, minimizing the risk of complications.
Health care providers found guilty of violating this law, effective September 1, face the daunting prospect of losing their licenses. With this bill, Texas becomes a trailblazer in prioritizing child protection over controversial and life-altering procedures.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), however, remains defiant, as it has vowed to file a lawsuit ever since the bill was passed in the Texas legislature in May. The organization claims that these risky procedures are medically necessary for transgender children in order to thrive in school and live authentic lives.
As the ACLU asserts its commitment to defending transgender children’s rights in court, Texas stay focused on protecting minors who could otherwise be exposed to lifelong medical, psychological, and physical consequences due to irreversible, early medical interventions.
