Comey Returns to Defend Wray: Swamp Creatures Unite to Protect Deep-State Secrets

House Republicans are threatening FBI Director Christopher Wray with a contempt of Congress charge after he refused to turn over a subpoenaed document to the House Oversight Committee. Former FBI Director James Comey has defended Wray’s decision, insisting that it’s just another short-lived D.C. kerfuffle that will pass. But with the stakes so high, can we really afford to take such a dismissive approach?

The latest scandal to rock the FBI has sent shockwaves through Washington as Director Christopher Wray has refused to turn over a subpoenaed document to the House Oversight Committee. This has left House Speaker Kevin McCarthy fuming and calling for contempt of Congress charges to be brought against him. The document in question pertains to a whistleblower’s allegations of a criminal scheme involving a foreign national and then-Vice President Joe Biden. Republicans are rightfully demanding transparency from the FBI, yet Wray is hiding behind Justice Department policy and tradition, rather than fulfilling his duty to the American people.

Former FBI Director James Comey, who himself was fired by disgraced former President Donald Trump in 2021, has jumped to Wray’s defense.

Comer’s comments to CNN host Poppy Harlow are no surprise, as he has never been a friend to conservatives or supporters of the rule of law. Comey’s attempt to downplay the significance of this issue, calling it a “kerfuffle” and stating that it will pass, is not just any ordinary dispute – this is about uncovering potential corruption and criminal activity by high-ranking government officials.

Republican Rep. James Comer of Kentucky and Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa are leading the charge in demanding accountability from the FBI. They wrote to the agency on May 3, asking for the production of a document detailing the alleged criminal scheme involving Biden. The FBI was subpoenaed on the same day for FD-1023 forms that mention Biden from June 2020. But the FBI has refused to cooperate, leaving Congress with no choice but to consider contempt charges against Wray.

It is unacceptable for the FBI, which is supposed to be an impartial law enforcement agency, to play partisan political games. Americans deserve transparency and accountability from their government and its agencies. Wray must fulfill his obligations to the American people and turn over the subpoenaed document immediately. Otherwise, he should face the consequences of his refusal to cooperate with Congress. This is a critical moment for our democracy, and Republicans must stay vigilant in their pursuit of the truth. The American people deserve nothing less.

While former FBI Director James Comey insists that this is just another passing kerfuffle, can we really afford to be so complacent? The American people demand transparency and accountability from their government, and they’ll stop at nothing to get it.

Let’s continue this conversation, in the comments below.
