Federal Charges Loom for Mother of 6-Year-Old Who Fired Gun at Virginia Educator

**Boy with Disability Shoots Teacher, Now Mother Faces Federal Charges**

In an alarming case that highlights our society’s ongoing issues with gun control and parental responsibility, the mother of a six-year-old boy who shot his Virginia school teacher is now facing federal gun and drug charges. The boy, who suffers from a disability and requires constant care, shot Richneck Elementary School teacher Abby Zwerner, landing her in the hospital for two weeks. The mother, Deja Taylor, had already been charged with child neglect and for leaving a firearm that could endanger a child.

Deja Taylor’s federal charges include falsifying information on the firearm paperwork, similar to a case involving Hunter Biden. After purchasing a gun from a gun shop in Grafton, Virginia, Taylor allegedly knew she was unlawfully using marijuana while possessing and purchasing the gun. While state law allows the use of marijuana, it remains federally illegal, raising concerns about Taylor’s suitability to own a firearm, as well as parent a vulnerable child.

This deeply troubling incident raises numerous questions about how our society approaches the possession and use of firearms, as well as the role of parents in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their children and those around them. Taylor’s actions demonstrate a disturbing disregard for a child’s safety and the safety of others in their community.

As the case proceeds, one hopes that the necessary legal steps will be taken to ensure that such dangerous lapses in responsibility do not continue, and that children, teachers, and other community members are kept safe from harm in the future.

**A Stark Reminder to Address Gun Control and Parental Responsibility**
