Target Gets a Taste of the Left’s Culture War
The Washington Post deems leftist protests as part of the ever-growing culture war, targeting companies like Target. Deviation from liberal ideologies can result in backlash for companies who attempt to recognize and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, hindering progress and fostering fear.
Target’s Pride merchandise was attacked by the far-right fringe, described by The Washington Post as those who object to the promotion of equal rights and acceptance for LGBTQ+ individuals. This led to a series of bomb threats that Target had to face, painting the entire conservative side as violent and unhinged.
Retailers like Kohl’s, Walmart, and PetSmart have also experienced similar situations. While Western States Center, a watchdog group that studies extremist movements, has noted the increase in such threats and harassments, they remain strangely one-sided on the matter.
In southern Florida, a Target employee was accused of being a “child groomer” (a far-right term for a pedophile); the employee reportedly experienced other threatening encounters as well. The Post blames these issues solely on right-wing individuals, who also take issue with retailers like Kohl’s and Walmart.
