Chris Licht Attempted the Impossible: Transforming CNN – But Did He Forget Who's REALLY in Charge?
CNN Boss Chris Licht’s legitimacy is under fire as his tenure is marked by a disastrous morning show, lack of network cohesion, and sagging ratings. With multiple stories revealing Licht’s refusal to clean house of former puppetmaster Jeff Zucker’s minions, it’s easy to see the difficulties faced in making real changes. Despite admirable intentions to shift CNN’s direction, Licht failed to take effective action and underestimated Zucker’s vindictiveness.
Instigating internal discord by not removing biased members of the team and giving too much leeway to the divisive Don Lemon sealed Licht’s fate as CNN continues to struggle. However, Licht’s downfall only proves the power of Zucker and the vindictive nature that remains embedded within CNN. Failure to address these issues will only hinder the network’s progress moving forward.
