**DC Metro official faces backlash after condemning ‘manspreading’ while ignoring rising crime rates**
In a questionable move, a top Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) executive publicly criticized a so-called “manspreading” incident on social media, while ignoring the spike in crime rates within the transportation system she oversees. Sarah Meyer, WMATA’s chief customer experience officer, received fierce backlash after sharing a photo of a commuter’s groin, pointing out perceived “manspreading” behavior, instead of addressing the more significant and urgent issues plaguing the Metro.
The WMATA is currently confronting a myriad of problems that demand urgent attention. Most pressing is the rising crime rates. Metro Transit Police records show a significant increase in offenses, including aggravated assaults, vehicle thefts, rapes, and even murders, when compared to the previous year. These figures warrant immediate concern and action from WMATA officials, particularly those in executive roles like Sarah Meyer.
Despite the critical challenges that the Metro is facing, Meyer instead chose to address the less relevant topic of “manspreading.” She shared a photo of a male commuter on Twitter, condemning what she believed to be unnecessary spreading of his legs on the train. Shortly after posting the tweet, Meyer encountered criticism and questions regarding her decision to highlight a man’s private area rather than the serious issues she is responsible for managing.
Conservative commentators and Twitter users called attention to the insensitivity and inappropriateness of her post, given her role in the WMATA. Additionally,
