In an attempt to celebrate Pride Month, Nike is said to be hosting a series of discussions and panels, including one with gender-reassignment surgeon Dr. Blair Peters. According to a leaked email, this comes as part of Nike’s repeated support for the LGBTQIA+ community. However, the selection of Dr. Peters is raising eyebrows as he has previously admitted to performing “gender affirming mastectomies” on minors.

Dr. Peters’ focus is primarily on “Gender Affirming Surgery,” often on adolescents, proudly sharing the experience on social media. This invites serious concerns about the ethics behind such procedures. Additionally, the leaked email seems to invite members to a “family-friendly” drag queen story time, raising further questions about the sort of messaging Nike wishes to promote during Pride Month.

Isaias Hernandez, a self-described “queer and brown environmentalist,” will participate in an event that explores “queer ecology.” Furthermore, Nike is said to donate a substantial amount of money, around $600,000, to LGBTQIA+ organizations, some of which are responsible for producing LGBTQ History Coloring Books for children.
