Big Tech continues its relentless crusade against free speech and election interference as YouTube once again targets Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., removing another interview featuring the well-known figure. It is crucial to preserve the sanctity of democracy by allowing all voices, regardless of political stance, to be heard without censorship.
In an alarming move, YouTube deleted an interview with Kennedy after claiming it violated “Community Guidelines.” Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time conservative voices have faced censorship from Big Tech platforms. Kennedy himself called out this blatant suppression of speech, emphasizing the importance of equal access to social media platforms for all political candidates in a functioning democracy, as it is the modern-day equivalent of the town square.
The censorship extends beyond YouTube, as Instagram (owned by Meta) temporarily banned Kennedy’s account. A Meta spokesperson later claimed it was an error. Various other interviews involving Kennedy have been removed or labeled under the guise of “medical misinformation” or given context labels like “Climate change.” This tactic has not been applied solely to Kennedy, as “lifelong Democrats” have faced subreddit bans for expressing support for him.
2020’s presidential election has already been tainted by Big Tech and Big Media’s interference, and it is of utmost importance to ensure that the 2024 race is not impacted in a similar manner. Censorship of conservative voices is a blatant attack on democracy, as all political opinions deserve equal footing and transparency. The First Amendment must be upheld in the digital sphere to preserve freedom
