Girl Scouts USA unveils LGBT-themed patch for Pride Month, fueling debate over the organization’s values.

In a decision that has stirred debate, the Girl Scouts of the USA is now offering its members a rainbow-striped patch to recognize their involvement in LGBT-themed activities and activism during Pride Month. This campaign, applauded by liberals, comes under fire as traditionalists question the values of the historic youth organization.

As part of their multicultural community celebration series, which includes Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Asian-American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Girl Scouts have introduced a Pride Month patch. Aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion, the patch is awarded to members who participate in a range of LGBT-related activities, from attending Pride parades to reading books by LGBT authors.

Critics argue that the Girl Scouts’ move to include LGBT themes and activism goes beyond the organization’s role in empowering and supporting young female leaders. They believe it risks alienating members who may not align with the political stance taken by the organization.

To earn the patch, members are directed to choose from a list of twenty activities provided in a PDF attached to the organization’s website. Depending on their scout level, scouts need to complete three to six activities to be awarded the patch. The activities include creating rainbow flags, attending Pride celebrations, learning LGBT-related vocabulary, and exploring the various forms of families.
