**Former Vice President Mike Pence demonstrates once again that he’s no friend to the January 6 protestors – and no ally of conservatives.**
When CNN held a town hall featuring former Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday night, it begged the question – why? Once hailed as a conservative hero, Pence has fallen out of favor with the right, and this latest appearance did nothing to mend fences. In front of a small audience, Pence staunchly declared that he would not pardon the January 6 prisoners – because, apparently, 18 years for merely standing outside the US Capitol is simply not enough punishment.
As a reminder, it was Pence who had the ultimate power to stand up for those who attended the gathering on that fateful day. Yet, when push came to shove, Pence chose not to “hear the evidence” that he’d previously promised to consider. He’s shown no willingness to take seriously the plight of individuals like Rosanne Boyland, who paid the ultimate price during the events of January 6.
In fact, Pence stated quite clearly – and without remorse – during the town hall that “we cannot ever allow what happened on January 6 to happen again in the heart of our democracy.” He went on to emphasize that those who “assaulted police officers or vandalized our capital” must be “answerable to the law.”
So, what does this mean for the future of these prisoners – these men and women who have become political scapegoats for a cause that some have tried to paint as “un-American”?
