The current approach of the White House to stay silent on the PGA-LIV Golf merger has raised quite a few eyebrows. Karine Jean-Pierre, the Press Secretary, was questioned by four different reporters about the merger, but she consistently refused to provide any information or President Biden’s reaction to it. Her statement, “We’ve been very clear, when it comes to mergers, when it comes to a private entity, we do not comment,” demonstrates the administration’s supposed position on such matters.
However, as Jacqui Heinrich rightfully pointed out during the press briefing, this stance differs from past White House reactions to similar situations. She referred to a Wall Street Journal article implying that the merger may be a show of defiance by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman towards Biden.
