Despite opposition from radical anti-police groups, the City Council of Atlanta approved the construction of a new $90 million police and firefighter training center. The facility will equip first responders with the tools necessary to combat an increasing crime rate, serving as a commitment to public safety. The mayor and city council recognized the urgent need for such training and approved $31 million for construction. A 30-year proposal requiring the city to spend $36 million on facility use was also placed. The remainder of the funds, approximately $23 million, will be funded through private donations. Opponents of the center have gone as far as to occupy the wooded site, creating chaotic confrontations with police.
