US Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled a plan to spend $100 million of taxpayer money on renewable energy in the Caribbean during her recent trip to the Bahamas. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide $20 million in funding to support companies, increase energy efficiency and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy. The initiative also establishes the Blue-Green Investment Corporation to finance climate-resilient housing, renewable energy projects, clean transportation and water conservation. The scheme is part of an audacious assault on the US economy, expected to cost taxpayers over $1 trillion. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has warned the nation’s heavy reliance on oil and fossil fuels could lead to price shocks.
