In a recent I&I/TIPP poll that has sent shockwaves through the Democratic Party, less than a majority of Democrats have expressed their support for President Biden’s 2024 presidential reelection bid. The poll surveyed 638 Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents between May 31 and June 2 and found that a mere 37% support Biden in the Democratic primary.
Of the potential challengers listed, which included former First Lady Michelle Obama, Senator Bernie Sanders, Vice President Kamala Harris, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, none came even remotely close to Biden in terms of support. Michelle Obama ranked a distant second with 10% support, followed by Sanders with 9%, Harris with 6%, Ocasio-Cortez with 5%, Clinton with 4%, and Newsom with 4%.
Interestingly, 15% of respondents chose “other,” and 7% were unsure. However, when the choices are narrowed down to Biden, Robert Kennedy Jr., and Marianne Williamson, who have been touted by the media as potential outside challengers, Biden received 68% support, while Kennedy received 12% and Williamson only 4%.
This poll result reinforces the belief held by many conservatives that no one in the Democratic Party has a viable chance of defeating Biden, even though his age and health have been subjects of speculation. A recent Economist/YouGov survey found that a plurality of U.S. adults believe that Biden’s age and health severely limit his ability to do his job, with 77% of Republicans, 48% of independents, and even 13% of Democrats agreeing.
Furthermore, concerns about Biden’s health grew after his tumble at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s commencement ceremony, which added to the mounting concerns about the 80-year-old’s health and abilities.
This polling data should make Republicans feel all the more confident that they made the right choice in backing former President Donald Trump, who leads the Republican primary field with a vast majority of support from his base. Trump’s unwavering support from his base is a testament to his leadership abilities and his commitment to America First policies.
The I&I/TIPP poll underscores the Democrats’ desperation as they are forced to rely on someone like Biden, who is notorious for his cognitive decline, to lead their party. It is increasingly clear that the Democrats have no one in their ranks who can match Trump’s charisma, leadership qualities, and the ability to get things done. The poll is another reason for Americans to flock to the Republican Party in droves.
