According to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll, the Department of Justice (DOJ) indictment of former President Donald Trump is causing Americans to fear that the nation is devolving into a “banana republic.” A total of 58% of likely voters agree that using police force to arrest political opponents is an affront to every citizen. What’s more, even 37% of Democrats concurred that the DOJ’s actions appeared to be hypocritical and reminiscent of a banana republic. Critics argue that the apparent selective prosecution sets a dangerous precedent and smacks of a dictatorship where the rule of law is wielded as a political tool. The American majority is taking notice and calling for the government to wield its power responsibly.
