Facing a Future without Modern Appliances: A Deep Dive into the Biden Climate Plan

Brace yourselves for a cooler summer and a chillier winter. The Biden administration, aiming to combat climate change, is targeting our everyday appliances. They’re looking to phase out some comfort providers such as air conditioners and hot water heaters by 2029. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre unveiled the plan, stating that it would save consumers about $11 billion a year and that tax credits related to energy use are in the pipeline. Critics, however, believe this strategy unfairly puts the burden of climate change on average Americans, while substantial greenhouse gas emitters largely go unregulated. The move raises questions about what would replace these appliances and the potential cost to Americans. Also, the measurable impact on greenhouse gas emissions is not entirely clear.
