Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida has introduced a bold and necessary piece of legislation that seeks to put an end to one of our country’s most egregious examples of radical liberal insanity: birthright citizenship. The “End Birthright Citizenship Fraud Act of 2023” is a critical piece of legislation that will rectify a grave injustice and secure our nation’s future.

The bill, which aims to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act, is rooted in the original intent of the 14th Amendment’s “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” clause. Such an amendment will deny automatic citizenship at birth to any child born within the United States whose parents are not U.S. nationals –– except for aliens lawfully admitted as refugees or permanent residents or performing active services in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The move comes at a critical time for our nation, as we face an unprecedented crisis at our southern border. For far too long, the radical left has used birthright citizenship as a tool to undermine our sovereignty and facilitate the ongoing invasion of our country by hordes of illegal aliens. Birthright citizenship has become nothing more than a loophole for these criminals to abuse our immigration system and steal the American Dream from hardworking taxpayers.

According to a 2018 analysis from the Center for Immigration Studies, nearly 400,000 so-called “anchor babies” are born across the country each year. This alarming trend threatens to overwhelm our nation’s already overburdened schools, hospitals, and social services, and poses a grave threat to the safety and security of American communities.

The United States and Canada are among the few developed nations that currently allow unrestricted birthright citizenship, a policy that is clearly out of step with our values and the needs of our country. Conversely, many developed nations have taken a much more sensible approach to the issue, enacting strict restrictions on birthright citizenship and safeguarding their national interests.

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk has praised Rep. Gaetz’s legislation and called on every Republican to support it. He rightly points out that any opposition to this critical piece of legislation is an affront to our nation’s sovereignty and a betrayal of conservative values.

The time has come to put an end to this dangerous and reckless policy that poses such a grave threat to our country’s future. Every patriotic American must throw their support behind Rep. Gaetz’s bill and demand that our elected officials take action to secure our borders and safeguard our national interests. Failure to do so would be nothing short of a betrayal of the American people and a surrender to radical left-wing forces seeking to destroy everything we hold dear.
