The United States is facing an illegal immigrant crisis under the weak and ineffective reign of the Biden administration. Recent federal data reveals that encounters with illegal immigrants on the northern border have spiked by approximately 36% in July, with a total of 1,154 encounters recorded, up from 848 in June alone. The majority of these illegal immigrants are from Latin America, with numbers increasing from 916 recorded encounters in fiscal year 2021 to a staggering 2,238 in fiscal year 2022. Between October 2022 and July 2023, a total of 7,633 encounters have been reported.

Border Patrol agents in the Swanton Border Patrol Sector, which spans New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York, have become “overwhelmed with the amount of work that they have to do”. This surge of illegal immigrants has led to diverting resources from the southern border, where they are sorely needed. The Biden administration’s inability to keep the country safe has compelled Republican Governor Chris Sununu to call for the formation of a congressional delegation tasked with securing the Swanton Sector.

The issue of illegal immigration has spiraled out of control under the uncontrolled reign of the Biden administration. Since taking office in 2021, an estimated 1.5 million illegal immigrant gotaways have been recorded, a significant increase compared to 415,000 total reported gotaways during the Trump administration in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The Biden administration’s weak policies have led to a 1,000% increase in illegal immigration from countries such as China, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and the Dominican Republic.

Major cities such as Chicago and New York are struggling to manage the influx of foreign nationals, with Chicago passing a measure to provide $51 million in funding to house and feed migrants. In New York City, over 50 places of worship are being used to accommodate foreign nationals. The situation has become so dire that New York residents recently protested a plan to convert a former nursing home into a housing center for migrants.

A Fox News poll shows that the majority of Americans, who have been let down by the Biden administration, are unhappy with Biden’s handling of the border. 62% of respondents disapproved of Biden’s handling of the border, while only 35% approve. An earlier CBS News poll published in May similarly found that 63% of respondents disapprove of Biden’s handling of the border, with just 37% saying that they approve.

The Biden administration’s policies have resulted in a massive influx of illegal immigrants into the United States, with no coherent plan to deal with the issue. The safety and security of American citizens have been disregarded by this administration, leaving residents feeling unsafe and vulnerable. It is high time for the Biden administration to take control of the situation before it spirals further out of control.
