U.S. Immigrant Population Skyrocketing, New Data Shows

The Biden administration’s open-border policies have led to a record high number of immigrants in the U.S. The number of U.S. residents born in another country has surged by close to one million, hitting a record 46.2 million, according to new U.S. Census estimates. This marks almost 14% of the total U.S. population, and it is only increasing. The Biden administration’s acceptance of tens of thousands of refugees from Afghanistan and Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, has played a part in this. However, it is the administration’s failure to address the millions of illegal migrants that have flooded over the nation’s southern border over the last year that has caused the biggest surge.

Though these data relate to the middle of 2022, which is before a lot of the recent surges, it includes many individuals who have entered the country via the southern border. The number of individuals who have illegally crossed the southern border has been unprecedented, and the Biden administration has failed to address it. As a result, insecure borders have become a serious national security threat, as foreign nationals with unknown intentions, and even terrorists, can bypass border agents undetected.

Many of the new immigrants to the U.S. come from countries south of the border, including Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, and Honduras. Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico have been hardest hit by this surge of illegal immigrants, causing many to worry about the safety and security of these regions.

The largest immigrant population in the U.S. comes from Mexico, with almost 11 million immigrants, but the number of immigrants from Mexico is decreasing, and the number of El Salvadoran immigrants is stagnant. While immigrants from Africa and Asia, including China, have seen significant growth, Afghan immigrants have increased significantly. Last year, the number of Afghan immigrants was less than 200,000, but it doubled in just five years.

Several major U.S. cities have been struggling to cope with a migrant crisis, which has been precipitated by thousands of new illegal migrants who cross the border seeking food and shelter. In New York City, over 110,000 illegal immigrants have arrived since last year, and 60,000 are still being housed on the city’s dime, causing officials to open additional homeless shelters.

Meanwhile, Mayor Eric Adams announced city-wide budget cuts to deal with the situation and warned earlier this month that the migrant crisis will “destroy” New York City. Chicago is dealing with a similar crisis as the mayor pushes for dozens of huge tent structures that can house 200 migrants each.

The Biden administration’s policies have only served to encourage more immigrants to cross the border illegally, causing a serious national security threat. Instead of addressing the root causes of this crisis, the administration has focused on political posturing and rhetoric, putting all Americans at risk. It is high time the administration takes action and ensures the safety and security of U.S. citizens.
