25 US Governors Demand Transparency From Biden on Mounting Migrant Crisis

On Tuesday, a group of 25 Republican governors, led by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, sent a letter to President Joe Biden demanding immediate information about the unfolding crisis at the southern border. The governors want accurate, detailed, and thorough data on the illegal immigration situation, specifically regarding who is crossing the southern border illegally, where they are relocating, how the federal government is processing their asylum applications, and whether they are being deported.

In their letter, the governors emphasized that they cannot fulfill their fundamental duties to protect their citizens without such vital information. They noted that every state in America is a border state and cited the alarming number of illegal immigrants who have entered the US since President Biden took office. To be precise, an incredible 5.8 million individuals have crossed the southern border, with an estimated 1.6 million of them evading apprehension.

The Republican governors strongly criticized President Biden’s policies, which they claim incentivize illegal immigration. The governors believe that their states are carrying the burden of the years-long surge in illegal border crossings and the coordinated trafficking of drugs and human beings by cartels. Consequently, states are facing severe challenges, such as shelters filled to capacity, empty food pantries, strained law enforcement, and exhausted aid workers.

To make matters worse, states are forced to provide financial, educational, and medical support to these migrants who enter the country illegally, support that is skyrocketing in cost due to record inflation and the unprecedented influx of migrants into the states. The financial impact on the states is staggering, and it is hardworking citizens who must shoulder this burden.

The Republican governors argue that the Biden administration is turning a blind eye to the crisis, causing states to struggle in their efforts to address the issue. Therefore, they are demanding immediate and accurate information about the situation at the border. Additionally, they require similar information on an annual basis as they anticipate the crisis at the southern border will persist.

In conclusion, Republican governors are firm in their belief that illegal immigration is a critical issue facing every state in America. They argue that the Biden administration must take swift action to tackle the problem and provide them with accurate information to make informed decisions. If the administration fails to act, the Republican governors assert that their already-overburdened states will continue to struggle, and their citizens will continue to bear the brunt of the crisis’s impact.
