Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, representing Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District, has announced his retirement at the conclusion of his term in December 2024. As the chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Luetkemeyer had been a strong candidate to succeed Patrick McHenry (R-NC) and had shown interest in the role.

Luetkemeyer stated, “It has been an honor to serve the great people of the Third Congressional District and State of Missouri. However, after much consideration with my family, I have decided to not file for re-election and retire at the end of my term.”

His tenure in office has been marked by significant roles on key committees, including the House Financial Services Committee and the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. Luetkemeyer’s retirement adds to the growing list of over a dozen House Republicans who are either leaving the House or seeking higher office.

With a promise to remain active in his remaining months, Luetkemeyer emphasized, “There is still a lot to do.” He reflected on the essence of America’s greatness, not in Congress, but in the “hearts and homes of our people,” expressing optimism for the country’s future.

Luetkemeyer’s exit marks a pivotal moment for the Republican Party, particularly in Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District, a stronghold for the GOP. His dominant win in the 2022 general election with 65.1% of the vote underscores the district’s solid Republican lean, setting the stage for a significant transition.
