Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) joined forces with fellow Republican Senators Kevin Cramer (ND) and Marco Rubio (FL) to launch the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act. Aiming to provide much-needed resources for expectant and new mothers, the Act has, predictably, provoked the liberal media into an unnecessary uproar.

The MOMS Act seeks to give moms access to grants and resources throughout their pregnancies, postpartum phase, and early child-rearing years. Naturally, the act got swept up in the crossfire of the far-left media machine, renowned for painting pro-life efforts in an unflattering light. Now they are using false information to undermine the bill.

Liberal media outlets twisted the narrative, claiming that the Act would establish a federal database to monitor pregnant women. Their choice of words aimed at driving fear rather than promoting facts. The reality is, participating in the resource program is entirely voluntary and does not involve disclosing personal addresses.

The leftist press has launched a targeted campaign against the bill, with outlets like The Guardian, NBC News, HuffPost, and others, notoriously criticizing the act. They’ve falsely advertised the Act as a plot to create a surveillance state, which couldn’t be farther from the truth.

The left’s primary gripe seems to be the Act’s intent to provide women with options other than abortion. Their scorn was especially evident when the Act refused to include entities promoting abortion in their database. Furthermore, they criticized the opening of federally funded grants to pro-life pregnancy crisis centers, taking issue with the conservative slant of the operation.

Democratic senators, led by Senator Patty Murray of Washington, leveraged these falsehoods to denounce the bill, claiming that it aimed to collect data on pregnant women and direct them to anti-abortion pregnancy crisis centers. The charges were baseless, but that didn’t stop them from flaming the fires of contention.

Britt’s office vehemently denied the implications, emphasizing that the Act is not aimed at creating a pregnancy registry. HuffPost, Salon, and Raw Story, among others, continued to skew the narrative, equating the proposal to an oppressive policy straight out of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ This messaging was a gross misinterpretation, and a blatant distortion of the truth.

Cutting through the sensational chatter, let’s turn to the facts instead. According to Britt spokesman Sean Ross, user registration or login is not required to seek resources. Additionally, it’s completely voluntary to share personal information, with no requirement to reveal pregnancy status.

The suggestion that this Act is equivalent to a system of surveillance is flagrantly false. The Act is designed to empower rather than control, offering essential resources to women who are navigating the challenging journey of motherhood.

In conclusion, the MOMS Act, while controversial in the eyes of the liberal media, stands to ensure that expecting and new moms have the resources they need to thrive. Whether or not this bill can survive the histrionics of the left remains to be seen.
