It seems PBS NewsHour has decided once again to go to bat for the Biden campaign’s re-election woes. Monday saw the media outlet attempting to rally around the controversial subject of abortion, or as they delicately put it, “reproductive health care”, following the landmark Supreme Court decision that turned over Roe v. Wade. Now it appears PBS NewsHour is playing the same tune once more.
The program enlisted highly-partisan reporter, Laura Barron-Lopez, for the job – a figure notorious for her slanted coverage. Barron-Lopez opted to listen to the voice that loudly labels “conservative”, without a mutter of the words “liberal” or “progressive.”
In a chat between Barron-Lopez and Michigan Voter Annie Sharkus, Sharkus claims to abstain from political labels such as Democrat or Republican. Yet her denouncement of future Republican votes paints a different picture. Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin desires to keep Sharkus and those like her believing that the Democratic party has their best interests in mind – particularly the issue of abortion.
Shanay Watson-Whittaker of Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America) champions the “right to choose” abortion as a God-given freedom. Yet, representatives such as Slotkin, despite their endorsement and 100% pro-abortion voting record from the abortion lobby, remain unmentioned in the broader “liberal” or “leftist” conversation.
Barron-Lopez touched base with Nolan Finley, the conservative opinion editor at The Detroit News, who expressed his support for imposing a ban on abortion after 20 weeks – well beyond the first trimeter.
PBS NewsHour made sure to squeeze in a dash of pro-Democrat, pro-abortion rhetoric into the conversation. All while giving Slotkin the final word to arouse the “wakeup call for Democrats” against their past lackadaisical approach to the issue.
Yet again, we saw PBS Newshour playing their partisan card, touting the agenda of one side and conveniently leaving out the other. It’s the same old song and dance – biased storytelling touted as “unbiased news”. It’s crucial for discerning viewers to remember: not everything painted as news fits the bill, and this biased reporting is a vivid example of that truth.
