A recent report from Reuters confirms that aid intended for Gaza from a U.S.-constructed pier isn’t finding its way to the intended recipients, with 11 of 16 trucks full of provisions being raided before reaching their destination last Saturday. Come Monday, the delivery system had ground to a total halt, with no deliveries coming through over the weekend.
News outlets like ABC, CBS, and NBC, typically soft on the issues concerning Hamas, have conveniently turned a blind eye to this story, leaving out the inconvenient updates in their coverage.
Reuters writer Michelle Nicholas states that essential items such as food and drugs for Palestinians in Gaza are accumulating in Egypt, given that the Rafah crossing stays shut, and there has been no movement of aid to a U.N. warehouse from the U.S.-made pier for a full two days.
The story, however, doesn’t miss the opportunity to throw Israel under the bus, mentioning the “military onslaught against Hamas militants” as a primary obstacle to sufficient supplies and fuel reach.
The real problem seems to be deeper, as Nicholas reveals later, Egypt states that the crossing remains closed because of a threat to aid work posed by Israel’s military operation. Nicholas then goes onto the core of the issue concerning the mal-functioning aid distribution from the hard-won pier.
The U.N. agreed to help with coordinating aid distribution from the pier but insists that land deliveries would be the most effective way to help in the ongoing crisis.
Deliveries by land also weren’t without their share of snags. After ten truckloads of food aid reached the Gaza warehouse on Friday, they could only manage just five on Saturday. The remaining eleven were hijacked by Palestinians.
Understandably, Twitter exploded with staunch criticism. Bill Roggio, from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, called the Gaza aid pier “the most expensive piece of performance art ever created, destined to fail.”
Noah Pollak, a contributor to the Free Beacon, highlighted the misappropriation of taxpayer money, alleging that it’s used to bankroll terrorism. He called out the Biden administration for failing to take action against these terror finance violations.
Marc Caputo, a seasoned political reporter from Florida, offered a biting assessment: Should we be surprised when a terrorist group with a rap sheet for staging murder, rape, and kidnapping hides in civilian areas and steals from its own people?
In a nutshell, aid aimed at alleviating the crisis in Gaza has become fodder for corruption and mayhem, with a silent media and a complacent administration doing little to rectify the situation. Struggling Palestinians deserve better, and we need to demand accountability for our tax dollars.
